* You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
* You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
* You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
* You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
* You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
* You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
* You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
* You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
* You cannot build character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence.
* And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

Trivia
Dr. Suess' editor Bennett Cerf challenged him to write a book that could use no more then 50 words or less. Suess took that challenge and wrote the book; "Green Eggs and Ham" Which uses exactly 50 words: a, am, and, anywhere, are, be, boat, box, car, could, dark, do, eat, eggs, fox, goat, good, green, ham, here, house, I, if, in, let, like, may, me, mouse, not, on, or, rain, Sam, say, see, so, thank, that, the, them, there, they, train, tree, try, will, with, would, you.

HMR Update
Weighed in today at 274.1 which puts me down 5.0lbs this week for a grand total of 63.9. It also put me a pound under my second goal of 275. The first goal was 300. The next goal would be 250, but with the wedding coming up in July I'm going into maintenance after another 3 weeks so that I can eat normal food. Should still be able to lose weight, just not as fast.

HMR Update
Well another week has gone by so that means it was weigh in day yesterday. I lost another 3.7lbs putting me at 288.4 which is just .4 shy of 50lbs total loss since January 9th. Starting in two weeks they'll move me from the "Core" class to the on going weight loss group so weigh ins will move to Wednesday nights.

HMR Update
Last night was another weigh in and I am now down a total of 45.9lbs since January 9th. I lost 3.4lbs last week. My current official weight is now 292.1 lbs. I'm fairly certain that the last time I was in this territory was college. I have about 6 weeks left before I'll transition to "real" food again so that I'm eating normally by the wedding in July. I would like to hit 275lbs (High School) before the transition, but we'll see how it goes.

RIP China
Today we are having to put our pet hamster China to sleep. She's been getting progressively worse and now she's not eating or drinking well and is not looking good at all.
Blessed are you, Lord God,
maker of all living creatures.
On the fifth and sixth days of creation,
you called forth fish in the sea,
birds in the air and animals on the land.
You inspired St. Francis to call all animals
his brothers and sisters.
We ask you to bless this animal.
By the power of your love,
enable it to live according to your plan.
May we always praise you
for all your beauty in creation.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.

Diet Day 5
Well I'm still alive and kicking on the diet. It's working very well for me. I haven't really been hungry at all and the shakes seem to have a lot of potential for variety. Last night I used one of the approved recipes to add Jello to the shake which tasted really good. I've also managed to keep up with the exercise and went to the YMCA last night after work.
Today will be a strange schedule as I've been called for Jury Duty. Guess I get to see how the system works today. Just hope I don't end up being a odd man out juror like in 12 Angry Men. I do have stubborn tendencies.

Diet Update
Well I'm still 100% on board with the diet plan. No slip ups yet except in my dreams. It's quite amazing how realistic a dream can get with taste. Today starts day 4 on the diet. So far all of the meals that I've tried have tasted really good. The shakes are almost too good to be diet food. Right now I would say my favorite shake is to do a chocolate shake with mint extract. One caveat, be very careful how much mint you put in, a little goes a long way. I had one shake over the weekend that could have passed for mouth rinse. Today is the midpoint check in and with three days of records I have eaten 2980 calories and exercised away 520 for a net caloric intake of 2460 over three days. I'm fairly sure that I've had more than that in one day in the past.

It's a new year...
so it must be time for a new diet. This time however I'm going at it with help. The hospital where I work has a program called HMR that is a managed weight loss program. Starting tomorrow morning I will only be eating what they give (well what I buy from their approved list) me to eat. This part of the program will last until the middle of April or so for me. After that I'll transition back to normal food and a maintenance program. Hopefully being accountable and not having to make choices about food will give me the jump start that I need. Starting weight for this attempt is 338lbs.
